Let me count the ways..

Today. It snowed. A lot. When I woke up there was no snow to be seen, but I was wise and trusted dear weatherman and thought "I'm not going to risk ending up in a snow bank.. again."

So I stayed home.

I'm not completely neglectful. I came home yesterday prepared with my work laptop and gear so I could work from home. And that my friends, is what I did. You see, we have this weather policy that if you can't come in due to weather, we have to work at home. It really is a catch 22. Snow days officially don't count as a way to stay home and do nothing. Although I don't think they really having blogging in mind either..

Today - I'm rocking both laptops. And when my phone rings I quickly scamper over to work laptop and work. And the rest of the time when there is nothing else to do, well I'm thankful for being in the comfort of my own apartment.
Ok reasons why I'm glad I stayed home..

1) Check the snow.

Grass is gone!
2) Candles - I think our agency frowns upon open flames. Not this work from home agency! Ahh sweet, sweet candle.

3) I have a helper! She may be a pest, but she sure is darn cute!

4) Move aside fashionistas, I've got a new look for you! ;)

5) My very own coffee pot - less than 10 ft away from me!

6) My work laptop was up and running this morning at 7:15! It's amazing how early I can get to work when all I have to do is.. get out of bed and turn on the computer! :) Thanks to the mandated 7.5 hour work day, I'll be done @ 2:45 today! Then I can officially enjoy my snow day and do something dangerous - like watch a movie!

Top 10 List - Holiday Edition

Good morning!! I've put together a combination of my wish list/ top 10 list for surviving winter!!

10. Magazine subscriptions - for those cold, boring, occasionally lonely nights!

9. Urban Decay  Naked Palette - Eye shadow is just so fun! This eye shadow palette has been given amazing reviews and is one hot item, nearly impossible to find because it's so popular and versatile!

8. Victoria's Secret Noir Tease Body Mist - smells so yummy!

7. Layering pieces - these two are from the Gap.

How cozy does this sweater look??? OMG!

A friend of mine was wearing this jacket one night and I fell in love! It's made of sweatshirt material, but polished enough for work or date night!

6. Sweatshirt tunic from VS - not so much work appropriate (haha!), but looks like something you could live in on the weekend and a good alternative to the hoodie!
5. Flannel PJs - duh!! I actually don't own any flannel pjs, but given the cool winter temps so far, I can already tell it will be much welcomed addition to my pjs selection!
Love these pink and white stripped ones from VS!

4. Moccasins - ok so probably not the most practical foot wear for winter, but I think they're cute!
This pair is by Minnetonka and can be found at DSW, among other places

3. Infinity scarves! A very cozy, fun new-ish trend! They come in all different fabrics / styles and I intend to learn how to knit one with the mother-in-law this winter, but I love this one from the gap!

2. Sweaters! Gotta have them! Here are a couple that I like!
Love this magenta cowl!!

Easy, and relaxed dolman sweater!

Pretty "gold nugget" zip sweater

1. Uggs! Now that I'm back "up north" and not living in Alabama, I can totally justify another pair! :) Love these "Classic Cardy" Uggs in Grey!

It's Winter!!

All of a sudden winter has arrived!! Looking at our wedding pictures from the last post makes it hard to believe that it's December and Christmas is around the corner!! I'm going to add a few songs to the Listening page to get us in the spirit, so check them out!!

Husband and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It really was better to be expected and I'm so THANKFUL that he got to come HOME!!! YAY! YAY! YAY!!! It was a short visit, but just what I needed! It's these kind of "visits" that are perfect reminders of why we got married, when my vision and thoughts get clouded by the stress of military separation. I love him! "He completes me!" Haha - I always had issues with  this line from Jerry Maguire sorting through the sweetness of it with the "I'm independent, I don't need no man to complete me!" He's the peanut butter to my jelly! In some ways we are so different but we balance each other out and make once yummy sandwich! ;) Sadly I don't have any adorable pictures of us from Thanksgiving, but I'm sure mom does, so when I get them I'll post!
The one picture I took of husband - right before he left to go back south :(
Some of you know, but we bought our first ever Christmas tree!!!! We had no intention of going out on black Friday, but we did and it was fun!! Of course, we waited until a reasonable hour to leave the house, so that may have been part of it!! It's a 7ft fake tree and I'm really happy with it!! It was easy for him to assemble and we quickly tossed lights on it! Friday night we put up all our ornaments while watching Elf! How fun is that? I had no idea if we would need more ornaments to make the tree feel full, but it looks great! Room for more, but no need for me to go out now and put some on so the tree doesn't feel naked!!

SNOW!!! (taken this morning!)
Once I charge the battery on my good camera (not cell phone) I'll take some other pictures of our tree! Mike and I have followed in his parents footsteps and started a tradition of purchasing an ornament on vacation. We don't have many, but it's really neat to see the few that we have and talk about our trip - "oh that is when we ended up in Destin when your car broke down!" and of course we have a couple of ornaments from our honeymoon! It's fun!

Yesterday I went to Bath & Body Works and used a coupon to get a "Wallflower" aka air freshener plug in in the scent "Fresh Balsam" - it is so yummy and makes up for not having a real tree!!! A must get, in my opinion for the fellow fake Christmas tree supporters!

The one picture I did take of husband - right before heading back at the end of our wonderful time together. :(

Well I have lots more I could update, but I'll share those random thoughts in a different post! Happy Winter!
